Life is a journey of unexpected twists and turns. We don’t know what the future holds, but we know who holds the future. With that in mind, God has been constantly surprising Pastor Scott. He was born and raised in the South Bay and then went to Concordia University in Irvine where he completed a degree in theology with a minor in Biblical Languages. After college God sent him on a road trip where he served churches from California to Maine. This trip helped him see God’s vast and wonderful church. When he came home he went to Fuller Seminary and met his beautiful bride, Emily. When he completed seminary and got married. God called Pastor Scott and Emily to move to Alabama where they served as the Associate Pastor at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Birmingham Alabama for six years. While in Alabama they learned about all things college football, BBQ and God’s faithfulness in blessing them with two wonderful daughters; Grace (born in 2010) and Hope (born in 2015). God surprised them all by calling them back to South Bay where they are enjoying serving as the Senior Pastor at Ascension Lutheran Church and had their third child Isaac (2017).

Director Contemporary Worship and Director for Youth and Family Ministries
Jillene Cook is first and foremost a child of God, just like all of us. However, like us all she wears many other hats while walking in that identity. You might find her worshipping at the piano, engaging the youth, or she may be hand in hand with her husband, Patrick Cook. Wherever you find her, expect to be greeted with a warm smile and a big hug! Jillene comes from a big family of worship leaders, preachers, artists, and evangelists. She graduated from The New School in NYC with her BA in Dance and Theater. Following this adventure, God called her to LA to attend a ministry internship, equipping young leaders in worship, preaching and pastoral care. From this internship, God gave her that loving nudge to become a Youth Pastor and called her to First Lutheran Church and School where she has been for the past 3 years. Jillene is currently attending the Institute of Spiritual Formation at Talbot Seminary. She is excited to serve the Ascension family in all the surprising ways God leads.
