"Maundy" comes from the Latin word mandatum, meaning "commandment," reflecting Jesus' words, "I give you a new commandment" (John 13:34), on the night He washed His disciples' feet and partook of the Last Supper. We gather in the same spirit, reflecting on our relationship with others through the washing of feet and on our relationship with God through communion.
